Q. When the IES examination is usually conducted?

Reply: The UPSC conducts this examination in May (2nd Saturday, Sunday & Monday) every year. The notification is published during January.

Q. Who can appear for this examination?

Reply:  Following candidate may appear for IES examination conducted by UPSC.

  • The candidate must have attained 21 years of age on August 1st of the year of examination and must have not attained 30 years of age on that date. The upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST candidates and by 3 years for OBC candidates.
  • The candidate must have either obtained a degree in Engineering from a University or must have passed Sections A & B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India) or obtained a degree / diploma in Engineering from such foreign University / College / Institution and under such conditions as may be recognized by the Government for the purpose from time to time; etc. 
  • Passed the Graduate Membership Examination of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India); or 
  • Passed Associate Membership Examination Parts II and III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India; or 
  • Passed Associate Membership Examination (Section A and B) of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (India)

Q. What are the departments we get after clearing IES 2011?

Reply:  Following departments are offered to Candidate as per their appearing Branch.

For IES almost same department are expected but for ECE candidate “Junior Telecom Officer Group B in ITS “can be altered.

Q : In which branch I shall appeared in IES Exam?

Reply:  The Engineering Services Examination is conducted by the UPSC, every year for the recruitment to the four categories of engineering services:

  • Civil Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Electrical Engineering
  • Electronics & telecommunication Engineering

Q : If my Branch in Engineering (B.E. / B.Tech.) is other than Civil, Electrical, Electronics ,Mechanical, then am I eligible to appear in IES examination?

Reply:  Yes, you are eligible to appear in IES examination. It’s your decision to opt any one Engineering branch to appear in the examination.

Q: How many attempts I can appear in IES Exams, my category is general?

Reply: There are no restrictions over number of attempts. Your age limit is between 21 to 30 year.

Q: I am in final year of engineering, shall I eligible for IES?

Reply:  Yes you are eligible for the IES exam but you must be clear your final year exam before interview (February-March ).

Q: How can I apply for IES examination?

Reply:  You can apply ONLINE & Offline.

Q:  Is there any negative marking in IES?

Reply:  In objective paper (General Ability Test, and Objective paper I & II ) carry  negative marking of 1/3rd .

Q: What is best way to prepare for IES examination?

Reply:  Very interesting question, you need to prepare strategies for All related subject like General study, Objective & conventional.

Keep updated on current affair related to Science & technology, Important International meeting, issue, Modern history, Indian geography, Polity & life science and improve your Grammar & vocab strength.
